 Church Cabinet

It was a very pleasant experience dealing with Heritage. The work was of good quality, and we are pleased with the results. Next time we’ve got something in mind we’ll be calling on them again.

 Transom Windows

Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc came through when our order from another company fell into the cracks and did not get actioned. The other company advised us that they could not now meet our deadline even though they had the request months before.

Frantically looking for another company that could meet our short deadline, we happily came across Ashley and Brian of Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc. They were so accommodating and, although not initially guaranteeing they could meet our now tight deadline, they promised they would try. Again, happily, they were able to meet our deadline and we got our three interior period (1920 style) transom windows just hours before we had originally wanted them. They are perfect and totally finish our home as if they had always been there.

Thank you Brian and Ashley. You came through for us when we were in a bind. You did not have to but you did. We appreciate your honesty and attempt to deliver. We will definitely use your company to finish a few more projects we have in mind. We will contact you soon.

 Bedroom Built-In

This being our first experience with custom furniture, we did not know what to expect. Brian was great. We gave him our drawings and he brought them to life! The built in sheves and drawer units transformed our bedroom. We were so impressed with his workmanship and his obvious care for us, sending us pictures midway through to make sure we were happy with this detail or that. Brian was an absolute pleasure to work with. I would recommend Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc without hesitation.

 New Reproduction Windows

Brian and his team are great! Good attention to detail and kept the work site clean. Brian has been very responsive with any tweaking needed after the install of the “historic” and huge windows we needed installed. They are beautiful and so much easier to deal with compared to the old windows and storms that were in place. Thanks for the great workmanship!

 Church Windows

St. Giles Presbyterian Church located at First Avenue and Bank Street was constructed in 1928 and over the years it has been difficult to maintain the fabric of the Church including the over 40 wooden windows.

These days it is hard to find crafts people with the expertise and knowledge to repair and rebuild the type of wooden windows that old churches have.

We first retained Brian Driver to prepare an inspection report of all the exterior windows including several large stained glass windows. This then enabled Brian to give us a detailed quotation specifying exactly what repairs or complete rebuild he was recommending.

The rebuild work was completed during 2018 and the workmanship and fit of the windows exceeded our expectations.

As this was a complex project there were several agreement amendments, additions and subtractions from the work scope. The contract management with Ashley was excellent with clear monitoring of the percent completion of the work enabling the Church Committee to fully understand how the project was proceeding.

The restoration work will continue in 2019 with the complete rebuild of a very large stained glass window and so we fully anticipate that this challenging project will also be successfully completed.

We would recommend Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc. to others needing quality carpentry work, excellent working standards, and great people to work with.

Their beautiful work referenced the original heritage windows of 1867 but are also efficient and attractive in their own right.

 Church Door Restoration

Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc has been working with our church over the last two years to repair and reinstate a number of our exterior doors, which have borne the brunt of 90 years worth of winters and summers.

We could not be happier with Brian, Ashley and their team. The are highly professional, the work they do is excellent and they have been most accommodating regarding the Church’s schedule.

We look forward to continuing to work with Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc and happily recommend them to others.

 Arts & Crafts Home

What started off as a single initial project made us repeat customers numerous times over in the past 2 years. We selected Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc to build period-specific windows, solid wood doors, custom wooden siding, and a traditional porch railing for our Arts & Crafts home.

Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc’s team are not only skilled in the practice of old world carpentry, but are experts in working with the aged home where the corners aren’t square and the floors aren’t level. We appreciated every aspect of the work they did, including their trustworthiness & work ethic, their choice of materials, their detailed proposals and design consultations, their meticulous clean-up, and most importantly, the quality of their workmanship. We trusted Heritage Carpentry enough to leave them our keys and work unattended, a privilege we didn’t extend to any of the other 11 contractors we hired during our restoration. For our house, modern mass production hardware would have looked cheap and awkward.

Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc built exactly what we wanted and kept the historic look and feel to our home.

 Leaded Window Restoration

We are incredibly happy with the restoration of the leaded glass windows on our 100-year-old home, which had not been functional for decades. Brian and his team restored them to their former glory with great skill and attention to detail. We will definitely be hiring them for future work and would highly recommend them.

 Custom Bookshelves

I was very happy with the bookcases that Brian and Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc made. Not only were the bookcases beautiful but the team managed to match the stain with my existing furniture. Brian and his team were always on time, clean and delivered the bookcases within budget. I will definitely consider the Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc for future projects.

New Solid Walnut Bookshelf and Credenza

Brian and Luc from the Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company inc were recommended to me by a close friend, who had hired them in the past to complete a multitude of repairs to the woodwork on her Victorian home. I had some furniture that required repair (following damage sustained in a move). The pieces were older family items, but not antiques, as well as a modern bed. All repairs were completed in a timely manner, the cost was as quoted (and extremely reasonable in my estimation), and I was very satisfied with the care they took while doing the work.

However, I was truly impressed by the work that they completed for me on a later project: a custom solid walnut sideboard and bookshelf. While I prefer modern furniture, it can be difficult to find quality pieces with solid wood construction, so I decided to have them made. Working with the Heritage Carpentry& Joinery Company inc was a pleasure from start to finish – Brian and I met and sketched out a design and discussed some technical issues that I was unaware of. Once the details were ironed out, I received an itemized written quote, and I decided to proceed with the project. During construction, Brian would ask additional questions and send photos, to ensure that there would be no surprises on delivery. Both pieces were delivered as promised, and exceeded my expectations – they are truly beautiful. The entire process was seamless, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Heritage Carpentry and Joinery to my family and friends.

 Bespoke Pedestal Base

Our home is now graced with an elegant bespoke pedestal base for a glass table top in our dining room.
We were looking for a base that would complement other pieces of furniture in the home and fit comfortably into a small dining room in a condo.
Heritage Carpentry and Joinery Inc provided us with the solution: Designed and crafted by Brian Driver, a third generation joiner, the base is both beautiful and practical.
The consultation process leading up to the final design was thoughtful and detailed. The workmanship and talent shines through in the final product. We are delighted to welcome this lovely addition to our home.

 Church Sign and Reproduction Doors

Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc. does excellent work, true to the craftsmanship and detail of the period our church was built in, over 150 years ago. Brian understands the importance of deadlines and prompt response to requests. We were very impressed with the turnaround time of design ideas and the provision of realistic delivery dates. We were so impressed with the workmanship and customer service for our Church sign that we went back to him when we required custom made exterior doors. We would highly recommend Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company Inc to anyone looking for quality work requiring fine detail on period pieces by professional craftsmen.

 Victorian House

The Heritage Carpentry and Joinery Company have completed several projects on my Victorian (1874) brick house. Work has included portico repair, major window repairs/restoration, construction of a new/replacement window, and repair of an ancient, ornate Quebec door (in dire condition) in use as a pantry door. All of the work done was excellent. Some of what I really like about working with the Company: Brian and his associate Luc are master carpenters who understand and use traditional methods; they do excellent design work; they source quality materials; they communicate effectively; the proposals are clear and detailed; the company honours it’s estimates; the work is on schedule from start date to finish; the site is kept in good order; the staff are good problem solvers (important with old houses); the end products have been excellent; the staff are totally reliable and a pleasure to work with. I am in my 40th year as a home owner: 28 of the years owning my current house. I have worked with a lot of trade and service companies over the decades. Heritage Carpentry and Joinery Company are up there with the very best.

 New Kitchen Cabinet

I needed a new kitchen cabinet built to allow access by someone with limited reach. I knew what I wanted, but I had no idea how to verbalize it, nor any idea about the design aspects. Brian met with me, inspected the location and saw the general design of the kitchen. When he prompted me for ideas I was not able to provide guidance, other than the functional requirement. Brian took measurements, and the very limited direction I provided, and said he would build me something and return within two weeks.

I came home from work one day and Brian was completing the installation of the most beautiful cabinet! It is exactly what I wanted – though I didn’t know it.

Brian was professional and delivered on-time and the final price was the price he had originally quoted for the job.

I am so delighted with the workmanship and the service, that I will be hiring Brian to redo my other kitchen cabinets.

 Built-in Cabinets for a Studio/gallery

Our house is 200 years old and lacks the cupboard space we needed for household items and the photography studio. Brian’s solution gives us an elegant set of units that double as a display space for artwork when the gallery is open, and they don’t interfere with the art on the wall. The workmanship is outstanding; a valuable addition to our home. Thanks Brian and Luc.

 Heritage Porch

Brian was extremely reliable and helpful. He responded promptly to our questions, completed the porch by the required deadline and was always easy to communicate with. (He also acted as a liaison with the City of Ottawa Heritage department.) Our heritage porch was beautifully restored and we are happy with the quality of his work.

New windows and screens on an old farmhouse!

I just wanted to write to thank you for the wonderful job that you did in replacing our house’s vinyl windows with your company’s wooden single hung windows. I appreciated you taking the time to help us choose a window style that was period appropriate for our brick farmhouse.

We love that the windows have a heritage look yet are energy efficient with modern thermal glass and weather stripping.

The whole process, from measuring, delivery and installation was done efficiently and professionally. Delivery was on the date promised and we appreciated that installation took only one day.

A few of our neighbour’s have commented on how great the house now looks.

 Built-in Bookcase

In our 200 year old house there are few straight walls. We asked Brian back again to help us with a shallow but long space into which no store-bought bookcase would fit. I am so delighted with the way Brian blended the bookcase into our hallway so you would think it had always been there.

The quality we enjoyed in all our dealings with the Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company was unsurpassable.

 Porch Restoration and Door

It was an absolute pleasure working with The Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company on the restoration of our front door and porch. Our house was built in 1888 and we wanted to have something in keeping with that era and to qualify for a City of Ottawa Heritage Grant. Brian worked with us at the design stage to get it just right. The finished product is a masterpiece, with every little detail just perfect. The level of craftsmanship in their work is phenomenal, with the greatest of care taken at every step. Brian embraced our vision, made many suggestions to improve it, and then executed the project on time, on budget and with virtually no disruption to our lives. Brian and his team are so respectful and considerate, it was a pleasure to have them working on our heritage home. We have had so many compliments on the finished product. I would highly recommend The Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Carpentry.

 Outdoor Railing

We contacted the Heritage Carpentry & Joinery Company to build a wooden porch railing based on online recommendations for Brian Driver.

Brian was very professional, communicated clearly, and had the fine carpentry skills and experience to accommodate our specific requirements. He arrived on time and finished within his estimated schedule and budget. We were especially impressed with the care he took at every step of the project, including the sanding and finishing touches.

Brian clearly takes pride in his work and ensures his customers are happy! We would gladly recommend Brian and will definitely hire him again for carpentry work.

 Furniture Repair

I hired Brian Driver to repair mahogany furniture that I have. He promptly arrived and repaired the old bureau beautifully. I was so impressed I asked him to repair an old wine table that had been in need of repair for some years. As I valued this table highly, I looked a long time until I could find a craftsman who could do justice to this lovely piece. Brian was just the man for the job. He repaired the piece very sympathetically and I was thrilled with the result.

It is with pleasure that I recommend Brian Driver if what you are looking for is prompt, polite and expert know how.

 Basement Reno

We asked Brian to repair a basement room that had been flooded in July 2014. In true style, Brian recommended simple ideas to greatly improve the room’s functionality. He installed a sliding door to add privacy within the small space. When he replaced shelving in the wall-alcove, he installed a louvered-door to create a more finished look. To complete the picture, he added framing to the inset windows, and stylish hardware for the doors. We are delighted with the result – the room is now better than it was before, a cozy bedroom to offer our guests.

 Custom Kitchen Design and Build

We had a design challenge – how to create balance and coherence in an open-concept kitchen that is really 2 separate parts — a relatively small prep area and a larger kitchen-table area, separated by a walk-flow path to the adjoining family room. Brian built new kitchen cabinetry for the prep area to extend up to the ceiling, to optimize storage in the small space. He also built a matching Welsh Dresser and Pantry Cupboard to surround a new kitchen table, all in the same design as the kitchen cabinetry. His design allowed the crown moulding in all the rooms to match the moulding at the top of the kitchen cabinetry. All of these touches pull the room together in a unified and functional design.
